Mission accomplished!
Season 1 is officially in the bag. I hope you enjoyed the new level of absurdity at the end of the finale episode were I'm actually voicing 5 characters at once. If you love this podcast, you'll probably also love the finale. It's got a lot of bits and also some of the best music selections of the season as well. If you hate this podcast the finale will fuel your hateful black heart for weeks to come. So there is something for everyone here in the Finale. What's next? The short answer is I have no idea. But here's what I do know. I will be back with a second season asap. Although producing these podcasts can be very time consuming, it is definitely some of the most fun I've had in my adult life so I will be back soon. I know I want to podcast from the road as soon as my 50 state American Tour kicks off in Jan 2015. So it remains to be seen if that will be the 2nd season or if I'll do a season (ten episodes) in between. For now I have to take a bit of time to promote the 2nd annual International Blues Music Day (to take place all over the world on 8.2.14) and then immediately following that, I must begin booking the 50 stater. Once that's all on track I can begin working on season 2 so please stay tuned for a more definitive timeline. In the meantime please enjoy the full first season available for free streaming or download on the podcast page here on my website. As always, thank you all for listening, your feedback, comments and support. See you in season two. |
Dude! I envy you. Playing wise, you are kinda like the Ornette Coleman of the blues. Great speaker/comic genius/thinker. Yah. That said, I gotta go with Poppa Chubby. Why? I just think he's more famous..that means he's better than you. 2nd he's louder than you=better. So what if his (stage) name means "get an erection" meaning he's really a dick. Sorry my friend, dont hate me. (Ps one of my former students tours with him...so I got all the dirt first hand)

Howdy? I hope you enjoyed today's podcast...
I gotta get ready for my tour with Brushy but just wanted to say thanks for listening. Season one is coming to a close after the next episode. I really would prefer to keep these podcasts coming every week but I need to dedicate some time to booking my upcoming 50 state tour so I'll have to take at least a few weeks off to make it happen. I can't wait to come back for the finale and then again in a few weeks to begin season 2. I'll keep you updated on the facebook page for the podcast. In the meantime I hope you enjoyed the first (9) episodes of season one. The complete season one will remain posted, so you can go back and here them anytime. Thanks again for your indulgence, encouragement and support. See you next Sunday! |

Dear friends and listeners, I hope you enjoyed this week's podcast. As I said in Podcast #1, this isn't going to be for everyone but I do think this week's podcast was the first good one in terms of the overall essence and getting closer than ever to the format I'm kind of going for. As long as I'm doing these, I promise to never stop pushing the envelope or be afraid to get a little experimental.
This format of podcasting has never been attempted before by a blues musician or in the blues genre. So in exchange for your indulgence, the least I can do is 'try' to make it somewhat entertaining. o.k. we'll see you guys next week and thanks again for your support. Please send in your comments and feedback, good or bad, and please give our new podcast a quick like on Facebook here to show your support. Thanks for your time see you next Sunday for JCP #9. |

Wow, am I still holding on to this dream called the Johnny Childs Podcast? I always said it would take me about ten episodes to begin to understand basically what I'm doing and hopefully by then, for my actual personality to emerge. Now I have just 3 more episodes to get it so wish me luck.
In this week's episode I explore some of the parallels between my 14 year old self discovering the Blues and the Robert Johnson mythology and my current music publishing contract and state of affairs. |
Superb Podcast/ I was totally entertained throughout the show. The format was tight but allowed you some leeway to keep it hip and flowing.

Wow, five episodes in the Can! This week's podcast would have been longer but the podcast was actually erased during uploading ( a very strange occurance) and I had to actually quickly re-do the whole thing and get it posted in time. So I left a had to leave a bunch of stuff out on the second run. But next week we'll be back with a vengeance.
I hope to keep bringing you these weekly podcasts as long as I can. If you enjoy them please show your support in some way. Encouragement is nice, donations are even nicer (I haven't actually experienced a donation yet but I'm guessing I'll be happy if I get one) and also please remember to like our facebook page and/or send in your comments/questions/suggestions. I would love to know what YOU think and what segments you enjoy so we can continue to evolve the podcast and grow the audience. Thanks again for your support. See you next Sunday at 2pm. |

Finally! Now we know the answer to the age old question: Who is the Hottest Blues Chick? And I couldn't be happier about the results!
Thank you all for voting and helping us answer the question once and for all. Our blues beauty pageant created a crazy amount of traffic to this site with over 8,000 page hits to the contest page, 3,000 facebook shares and 2,000 individual votes in just ten days! Pretty impressive and I'm thrilled to count it as yet another notch in my belt of theoretical successes. If you've been listening since our debut I really want to thank you for hanging in there with me as I continue to explore some of the many "creative" directions this thing can take before I settle in to a more predictable format. We'll get there soon and when we do, look out! Peace and love peace and love peace and love. Question of the Day? Should blues musicians play Paul Reed Smith guitars? |
"Keep me laughin bro. I need it..."

You gotta keep these coming dude" "Dana Fuchs, Definitely the hottest" I love how honest you are about you life and in a funny way. Love it, you're on to something here for sure, keep up the great work" "I liked the Taj Majal track" "Cool bro, Keep irking these SOB's who need to stay in the box. Remember, you're the Pres baby, you got powah!" "You're doing a great Job Johnny. Can't wait to see were this goes, been tuning in since #1 and enjoying the evolution so to speak." Thanks again for tuning in to my debut podcast! It was a lot of fun doing it and I'm confident I'll find the right balance & flow for this thing after doing it a few more times.
I hope you'll come back and join me on this journey to try something new in the blues, and establish a listening audience for the first ever, solo-talk (don't try this at home) Blues Podcast. My biggest self critique of show #1 is the Saul Miller bit which clearly went on way too long. I think it would have been perfect at like 7 minutes. In case you're wondering why our guest Saul Miller took a 25 minute sh#t on Kid Anderson it's really very simple. First & foremost, we were just having some fun. Second, Kid and I have had an ongoing friendly rivalry since The Summer of 2012. That's the short version. As far as Earl Thomas and Jason Ricci, they are both really cool guys (both talented & accomplished blues artists) and incidentally are cool with the bit. As for Blues musicians who play Cigar Box Guitars, you're on your own. The real question here is: Did I voice all 3 characters in the bit including the angry female caller? I'm afraid I cannot confirm or deny that. But if I had ever done a bit where I voiced all 3 characters, the venue I would choose to air that bit, would most likely be this podcast. If I lost any listeners as a result of the bit, that's a shame but definitely worth it if it also annoyed the crap out of Kid Anderson. Whom I actually like and vaguely admire for his talent and sense of humor. That's about it, thanks again for the support everyone, keep your comments and suggestions coming and hope to see you next Sunday, for attempt #2. I'll be podcasting remotely from Boston Massachusetts - where I'll be on a road trip with a real life, Jamaican folk musician named Brushy One-String. (youtube him) It's not a bit, I was hired to take him from NYC to Boston for his appearance at the Mass Moca and then bring him back to NYC where he'll be appearing at Global Fest at Webster Hall on Sunday. I will likely be podcasting from an empty car on the Amtrak train back to NYC. So please tune in next Sunday at 2pm. Thank you very much for your indulgence and support. Johnny Childs |
"Listened and found it dire, misogynistic, homophobic and boring, won't bother again!"
"I am 14 minutes in and not only is the podcast laugh out loud funny, it does indeed give some insight in to the mind of Johnny Childs." "OMG! You're doing a great job! What a first guest! WTG!" "ur funny man" "This is hysterical!! And it is impossible for Kid Andersen to be gay! Impossible!! PS. I love the bit!! PPS. It takes a real man to be a true bottom..." "i like saul miller! hes the man" "Crazy shit, you're gonna get killed lol" "lol....this shit is priceless" "400 gay working blues musicians ahahaah" "Saul Miller! great bit, doesn't beat 9 rejections comment" "I'm still listening. And laughing my head off" "I thought you handled yourself great with a pleasant voice. The first podcast will be a classic. Lots of laughs. Great!" "Bravo!! Very good! Good luck with this!" "You certainly got the whale part right! lol!" "You did the voices very well. If I didn't know you had made it up I'd have bought it. Very good. You really are amazing." "LMAO I listened and I liked it I didn't quite understand the rainbow guy (audio was hard to understand) but you were great! Never apologize on air for being nervous or whatever! You didn't sound nervous ...you're a natural showman so fake it 'till you make it!" "Congratulations on the maiden voyage of your Blues podcast . I'm sure it will only get better with time and you at the helm. Will look forward to who you interview. Great theme song, too." "I love the idea of a 'real' blues news segment! All I ever heard DJs do (regardless of station/podcast) is list birthdays (of mostly dead people) and of course read off concert dates of artists touring." "Pray the gay away lol" "Wait YOU did the voices???!!! Wow now I'm blown away! I honestly thought it was the rainbow guy and a woman blues dancer. And I thought it was real. No way was that all you. If it was you got me good! LOL" "Congratulations on the maiden voyage of your Blues podcast . I'm sure it will only get better with time and you at the helm. Will look forward to who you interview. Great theme song, too" " very interesting!!! You are making that splash Johnny Childs....." "I honestly thought you were interviewing a crazy person who had a bad phone connection. But, at the same time I couldn't figure out exactly why you were interviewing a crazy person with a bad phone connection. At one point I thought you were probably interviewing him because he is crazy and then wondered if there really was some gay blues society in NYC. I'm so happy I never got around to googling gay blues societies. Yes I did think about doing that for a minute and no, I'm not normally this gullible You are good Johnny, you're real good!" "i gotta say, i loved the first podcast, highly entertaining...great job Johnny Childs..i will def be tuning in for round 2" "Still like to flip the tables... huh!" "Laughed my ass off. See ya next week. BTW, I was trying to figure out wether the rainbow guest was you or not. It kind of reminded me of the Phil Hendri show." "Imho the funniest part was the hateful audience. I was dyin man, literally in stitches, laffin out loud. Just be yourself and NEVER hold back. Dig your style man, musically and attitude." "I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard. Felt great." "Enjoyed it, Johnny Childs! You're off to a good start." |
