JOHNNY CHILDS
is an American Blues musician and bandleader of The Johnny Childs Band based in New York City.
Johnny is an acclaimed blues guitar virtuoso, singer, songwriter and star of the award winning documentary film "The Junkman's Son".
Born into an impoverished, ultra orthodox Jewish family of ten siblings, Johnny left home at the tender age of 8. His storied life as chronicled in the film "The Junkman's Son" has been called "nothing short of astonishing!" [Billboard Magazine].
Johnny spent the better part of the past two decades honing his musical skills, performing in various countries and many cities across the U.S. His musical development includes a 12 year stint in Los Angeles learning from the many west coast masters and players coming through, ultimately solidifying his own musical voice and moving back to New York City in 2006.
Johnny's recordings have been featured in multiple TV shows and films including The Dukes of Hazzard (film), Justified [FX], Heartland [CBC] Made [MTV], Shameless [Showtime] Friday Night Lights [NBC] and many more.
His unique, fiery brand of electric blues guitar, blues and crossover originals, high octane, spastic-like performances and 3 acclaimed Blues CD recordings have earned him a reputation as "a truly one of a kind blues artist" [Blues Blast Magazine].
His unorthodox approach, has even seen him likened to "a Picasso of the Genre" [Southland Blues Magazine] and "A modern day Thelonious Monk of the Blues." [Blues Connection]. Another Blues reviewer had this to say: "We have not seen a Blues artist like this emerge in many years" [Wasser Prawda Magazine].
Johnny also gained a level of infamy among blues fans and industry insiders for his award winning documentary "The Junkman's Son" as well as a series of provocative publicity stunts he's executed over the years - in an effort to gain industry attention for his music.
A tireless promoter for his music and an unrelenting advocate for the Blues, Johnny is also the host of his own successful Podcast, [The Johnny Childs Podcast] founding president of the NYC Blues Society [www.nyblues.org] and Creator/Director of the "International Blues Music Day" initiative celebrated worldwide, every year on the 1st Saturday of August.
